Each First Response Medical Alert Systemincludes a base station console. The base station is a vital part of the medical alert system. It may appear to be simple and basic but it has many powerful features that can help save lives.
How does the medical alert systems base station console work?
In order for the medical alert system to work properly it is required to have the base console connected to a LAN Line (standard) telephone within the house. This connection is made very easily by using the standard telephone cord that comes with the system. It is also possible to connect the existing telephone in the house to the base station console. This is done by simply connecting the cord from the telephone to the underside of the console. The First Response System will now work alongside the existing house phone.
How do I communicate with the operator using the base station?
Built into the base console is a powerful two way speaker that is used to communicate between the customer and our central station operator during an emergency. This two way communication is initiated when the emergency button is pushed; our central station operator will be notified and will respond over the two way speaker within one minute. At this time the user in need can speak out to our operator to let them know what has happened and who they would like contacted to help.
How do I know the base station will work?
The base console includes a rechargeable battery that last up to 32 hours in case of a power outage. This battery will automatically run the system once primary power fails. Our central station will be notified that the system is running on battery and will then notify the premise to find out what the issue may be. Once primary power returns the battery will recharge and be ready for future use.
Below is a list of signals the base console sends to our central station in order to provide the most reliable service for our customers.
- Power Failure
- Power Restore
- Low System Battery
- Weekly Test Timer (This ensures the system is communicating properly to our central station on a weekly basis)
- Daily Activity Reports (This is an additional feature that requires the user to check in daily with the system)
- Medical Emergency Signals
The base console also includes a set of lights that will indicate different issues that may need to be addressed by our central station and the user.
The buttons on the console all serve a specific purpose and are very easy to use.
What do all the medical alert base station lights tell me? What do the buttons do?
The base console also includes a set of lights that will indicate different issues that may need to be addressed by our central station and the user.
The buttons on the console all serve a specific purpose and are very easy to use.
The most important is the large emergency button at the center of the console. This button should be pressed if emergency response is needed. Once pressed the unit will initiate an emergency response.
The clear button which is located to the right of the emergency button is used to clear any emergency calls that might have been made by accident. By a simple press of the button the emergency call will be canceled and the unit will be reset.
The home button located under the clear button is only used when a customer chooses the daily activity assurance option. If this service is being used by the customer then they will be responsible to hit the button each day in order for them to check in with our central station. If they fail to press the button within a 24 hour period the emergency contacts for the account will be notified about the inactivity.
